That’s me, my mom and my grandfather

Ps.: all of these photos were quick-scanned from the photos (not the negatives), and some of the, straight from the album, so never mind the quality :-P

Chat R Us

No Gravatar

As some of you know I’ve been doing some coding in C++ using the QT toolkit in my free time.

At the moment, it has the following functionality (both in Windows and Linux, using the same code):

  • basic chat capabilities (using UDP multicast for discovery and TCP for the actual conversations, so no server is needed)
  • save a log of the conversations
  • print the log of the conversations
  • warn if the TCP/UDP ports are already being used
  • remove disconnected users on timeout (both TCP and UDP timeout)
  • change tray icon on special events
  • hide window when the user presses the X button (show a balloon warning them, much like MSN)
  • context menu on the tray icon
  • basic translation mechanism (easy to translate the whole app, without changing the code)
  • private chat between users (besides a common room where anyone can talk)
  • URLs open on the system designated browser
  • settings are kept between sessions (currently our own font color, and if the balloon got clicked so that it doesn’t show again)

This should also work under Mac OS X (I need to get a Mac to compile the code on).

The following screenshot, depicts the first time a user using Windows was able to communicate with a user using Linux:

and this next one, shows how configurations are being saved between sessions on the Windows registry (they are saved under the user homedir in Linux), and you can also notice a small difference on the buttons design.

The color dialog on both screenshots change the font color you type your text with (it isn’t always showing of course, but somehow I always take my screenshots with it open *shrug*).

While browsing through RFF, as I often do, I’ve found this very cool photo from PetarDima (you can also check his flickr gallery).

And now that the credits are rightfully assigned to the owner, here comes the photo:

Now this is the kind of photography I am into!

Critical Radical Weekend: Registration period opening!

No Gravatar

Dear all,
This year’s Critical Radical Weekend edition will be held in the nice and (always) sunny village of Ericeira, in the last weekend of October (27th and 28th October).
(For more about Ericeira follow http://www.ericeira.net/uk/ericeira/index.htm)
You can find in attach the “FDSR” Registration Form that you need to fill in to complete your registration in the event, and send it to my email. If you are unable to attend please send me an email anyway, stating that.To give you enough time to decide if you’re up to participating in this almost overwhelming event, the deadline for registration will be the 28th of September. We ask those who are abroad to reserve your flights as early as possible and till this day (keep your costs low, pls).

Each worker and each companion will have to pay/send 25€ in cash or bank cheque issued in the name of Critical Software, SA to Sheila Marques of DAF within the registration period (till the 28th of September). Those who are abroad can make that payment in October, during the event, at the latest.

In general terms, the weekend activities dynamics is composed, on Saturday (27th October), by a welcome lunch in the hotel facilities, a afternoon full of team-based activities (which involve low-impact physical activity and a lot of team-playing effort J), a “ming-a-long” dinner, and a magnificent informal “get together” party, to end a terrific day of informal interaction.

In the morning of the 28th, we`ll have a wrap-up activity, which will be a remarkable experience to all of us… A “goodbye” lunch will be held in the end of this activity.

Let me know if you want to be my companion eyes

My Auntie is an Entrepreneur

No Gravatar

Hey there,

my Auntie T is doing some really cool things, and so I am helping her out with some stuff.

You can check her future website. You can also take a peak at how the gallery to sell stuff is going to look like, although it is still a major work in progress. I’ve been messing around with Simpleviewer’s code to get what I want, so expect a different end result.

I’ve just finished tagging, and giving titles to all the neck strings on Lightroom (about 50 items), so that latter it will be easier to manage the on-line gallery by creating/updating it automagically.

I’m really happy with some of these photos :-)

My good friend Edgar, of The-Iguana fame, is also lending a great hand, by re-designing a logo, and doing a catalog (really appreciate it!).
